A Talk With The Baltimore S.O.N.

Baltimore S.O.N. (Shinning Over Negativity) is a member of the GROWNMAN Hip Hop Group which got their start in Tokyo, Japan in 2004. GROWNMAN would open the door for other U.S. unsigned Hip Hop Groups to perform at venues throughout Japan at a time when that was unheard of. GROWNMAN garnered a massive following abroad that is continuing to grow. Each member is now working on solo projects with a 3rd GROWNMAN album in the works. The Baltimore S.O.N. is currently getting close to the finishing stages of his solo "HisStory THe Audiobiography of Baltimore S.O.N." project. He has constantly been told that he doesn't sound like the typical Baltimore rapper. His response to that is, "I'm not a rapper, I'm an EMCEE".

Baltimore S.O.N. spent 9 years in the U.S. Air Force which afforded him the opportunity to travel around the world and experience different cultures as it relates to life and Hip Hop alike. "I have had the opportunity to grace the stage in venues around the world in places I would never have imagined I would be in, and was showed mad love, that's when I knew that I was on to something." "HisStory" is officially the first full length solo project from The Baltimore S.O.N. After leaving Tokyo, Japan in 2006 the S.O.N. took a hiatus from making music. He said that he just didn't have the motivation any longer and he was disgusted in the direction the music industry had went. His love for music would not allow him to stay sidelined forever and with his eventual return to Baltimore and the birth of his son he found a rejuvinated love for music. The Baltimore S.O.N. has been quoted as saying, "The game is so trash right now that I don't even listen to music that much anymore, so I decided that if I don't like what I am hearing I have to do something about it." He will surely tell you that this is the premise behind "HisStory".

When asked how he felt about his project, the S.O.N. simply stated, "I am loving how everything is coming together and I want everyone that had a hand in it's creation and everyone that this will reach to feel as good as I feel about it." It should also be noted that the Baltimore S.O.N. has created this entire project without writing down one line. When asked about this he states, "I really just got lazy, it was taking me too much time to keep jotting my rhymes down." He also adds, "I really realized how blessed and talented I was as a result of this, to be honest, I don't even own a rhyme book. If you see me with a book bag in the stu, it just has my water, external hard drive and the camcorder and digital camera."

The Baltimore S.O.N. admits that he is not looking for a deal but he is always open to do business. "I feel that I'm just like that dude everybody knew growing up around the way, Main Man could hoop his ass off but never made it to the league." People have often asked the S.O.N. if you are not trying to secure a deal, why are you doing it. His response to that is, "I love playing basketball and I know I'm never going to the league but you still see me in the gym every week beasting." The Baltimore S.O.N. just wants tp let people know that there is still people in the Hip Hop community that are making music with substance. Baltimore S.O.N. is determined to give you real music without the allure of the streets.

As Always,
Respect, Peace & Blessings
